Dry Camping are non-electrical – dry camping, will require a Daily General Camping Permit.  Dry camping fees are charged per camp vehicle, not by campsite.  Campsite fees can be purchased at the time of purchasing an annual fishing permit from our Vendors.  Dry camping is allowed any where around our lakes.  Dry camping is free with a purchased of an annual fishing permit.

General

April 23, 2026 –Angler pressure has been steadily increasing as the months move towards warmer springtime weather.  Despite a recent cold front, anglers have been casting through wind, rain, snow and hail, pulling rainbows out of the storm all day. The trout activity across the three sisters (Mountain View, Sheep Creek, and Billy Shaw) is now exploding with anglers reporting high numbers of catches daily.

This year a limited number of palomino trout have been placed into the reservoirs as part of an opportunity to promote fishing, outdoor recreation, and provide our anglers with a fun opportunity to win a T-shirt, also data gathered will help track trout patterns specific to our three reservoirs. 

If you catch a palomino trout, please contact the SPT Fish & Game Office to receive a promotional award after catch verification of the palomino trout.

An important note for anglers:
If you catch a fish with a tag, shown below, please report the tag number, reservoir fish was caught, length of fish, if the fish was kept or released and angling gear used to fish@shopai.org, or call (208) 759-3246. This information will help us continue to make Duck Valley fishing a memorable experience.

If you decide to come to the reservation of the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes to fish, please contact the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes Fish, Wildlife, & Parks Department at (208)759-3246 to make all arrangements. Anglers are asked to report all efforts and success; Information on size, catch rate, and amount of time spent here is helpful when developing management plans for the reservoirs. Pictures of happy anglers and their catch are always welcome.

Angler Success

April 23, 2026 – Current efforts have indicated that the recent planters are responding well to spoons and lures, not so much with the balanced leeches.  Chironomids have been steadily landing trout as well.  The newly planted hatchery trout can often take a bit of time to re-acclimate to the new environment, in a self-sustained ecosystem; they can be caught using simpler bait casting methods and baits, marshmallows, worms, and power-bait.

Overall trout response suggests high action, high visibility lures and spoons.  Water clarity suggests anglers stick to clear water colors (earth tones), and cloudy colors, (earth tones with flash) as darker lures are more visible to trout in subsurface depth winter water zones.  Try dark hues like olive, dark brown, and black as trout tend to spend more time closer to the bottom during colder weather and love subsurface nymphs, and leeches.  Anglers have reported great deal of success with nymphs, chironomids, standard elk hair caddis flies, nymphs with slumper leads, and the Sheep Creek Special.  Bait casters have been successful with sparkling dark green Texas rigged leech gummies, and a wide variety of reflective lures over swimbaits.  Shore casters can count on landing fish with darker power baits, night-crawlers, marshmallows, and scent attractants, perch patterns, and flashes of red.

April 23, 2026-Winter/Spring driving advised when weather permits.  The reservoir access roads mostly dry, however, recent precipitation is present in some areas, and off-road access roads may be muddy; please use caution as road conditions allow.  Please follow all posted speed limits and use caution.
