The Land & Natural Resources Department oversees the management, protection, and sustainable use of Tribal lands and natural resources for the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes of the Duck Valley Indian Reservation. The Department provides land realty services, grazing management, conservation planning, oversight, and agricultural support in alignment with Tribal laws, federal regulations, and community priorities. Our staff works to ensure responsible land use, accurate records, and sound management practices that protect the Tribe’s resources for future generations.

 

Programs & Services

The Land & Natural Resources Department oversees a wide range of core programs and responsibilities, including:

Land Realty Office

  • Agricultural, Business and Residential Leasing
  • Homesite Assignment Application and Processing
  • TAAMS records and land status research
  • Beneficiary and ownership updates
  • Land Board Coordination

Natural Resources

  • Grazing permits and AUM tracking
  • Range monitoring and Livestock Count Support
  • Conservation planning and NRCS coordination
  • Noxious weed control and invasive species management
  • Spring, fencing, and water infrastructure projects
  • Soil and vegetation health assessments
  • Animal Identification

 

Interagency Support & Collaboration

We work closely with federal, state, and local agencies—including BIA, USDA, NRCS, BLM and others—to bring valuable resources, technical support, and program opportunities to the Shoshone-Paiute Tribal community. Through these partnerships, we strengthen grazing management, agriculture, conservation planning, environmental protection, and land services. Our collaborations ensure the Tribe has access to the expertise and funding needed to support healthy lands, sustainable resource use, and services that benefit our people.

About the Land Board

The Shoshone-Paiute Tribes Land Board is responsible for reviewing land applications, providing recommendations to the Tribal Council, and overseeing Tribal land use in accordance with established ordinances and policies. The Board ensures that assignments, leases and land actions are conducted fairly, support community needs and preserve Tribal land for future generations. The Land Board is voted in by the Tribal membership. Each term in office is three years on a staggered basis. 

 

Land Board Responsibilities 

  • Review and evaluate land assignment, lease and homesite applications
  • Make recommendations to Tribal Council for approval or denial
  • Provide oversight for compliance with the Tribal Land Code and relevant ordinances
  • Assist with land use planning and community land needs
  • Support transparency and accountability in Tribal land decisions

Land Board Meeting Schedule

Meetings are held monthly. Dates and agendas are posted at the Land Office and online when available.
